    Mont Blanc Meisterstuck (Masterpiece) 149

    The Art of Writing

Launched in 1924, this stylish 'writing instrument' has had a long association with paper, prestige and design. It has indeed become a design classic being on permanent display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The Meistertruck features several unique characteristics: a hand engraved number on the nib of 4810, which is the height in meters of Mont Blanc. The cap uses a white six-pointed star signifying the six glaciers around the summit of Mont Blanc.

As a fountain pen, there may well be other claims this iconic status such as the Waterman Pink nib, Parker's Duofold or the Pelikan 100, however, for pure class it has to be the 149. As a statement of good taste it is hard to beat as history shows us...

James Bond used one - in the "Man with the Golden Gun" Bond uses an adapted Meisterstuck to shoot Scaramanga, and again it appeared in Octopussy. It has been used by Presidents, John F Kennedy famously signed a treaty in 1962. Also by writers such as Ernest Hemingway who used one to scribble notes.

Since the 1950's ballpoint and roller technology may well have taken the market share, but for the design conscious there will always be a place in the heart for the Mont Blanc Meisterstuck 149.
